Welcome to The Monthly Reset, a pause in the noise. Each month we share one perspective, one practice, and one story that help us return to balance. No hacks. No overload. Just simple, science-backed ways to reconnect with what matters. We would love your feedback on this pilot!

Reset Insight

We track everything now: our steps, heart rate, sleep cycles, but rarely ask how we actually feel. A few weeks ago, I stopped wearing my smartwatch full-time. I realized I was checking it more than I was checking in with myself.

Since then, I’ve been reminded that resilience isn’t measured in data points; it is built through awareness.

When I work with my body’s natural rhythm instead of fighting it, energy flows with less effort. When I focus on my breath, the body speaks before my mind does. And when I let go of the constant tracking, I recover more deeply because I’m finally listening again.

Embodied Practice

The 2-Minute Reset

Before your next meeting or email reply:

  • Inhale through your nose for 4 seconds.
  • Hold for 2.
  • Exhale for 6.
  • Ask yourself: What’s my body saying right now?

Awareness before action. That’s the real reset.

Science Snapshot

Research from Stanford has shown that slow, controlled breathing (especially techniques like “cyclic sighing”), can quickly calm the nervous system and improve mood by lowering the body’s stress response.

It is a reminder that sometimes the fastest way to shift your state isn’t through more effort. It is through the exhale.

Field Notes

During a breathwork session last month, someone shared that their anxiety wasn’t fear: it was energy with nowhere to go. Once they stopped resisting it and started breathing into it, the tension transformed into clarity.

That’s what resilience looks like: energy redirected, not suppressed.
